CMW 2019: Nam-An’s Top 5

Nam-An is a self-proclaimed music geek.  He tends to find himself caught up in all different kinds of music shenanigans, whether it’s the centre of a mosh pit at a hardcore punk show, or a tiny smoky jazz bar hidden in an alley. If you dig through his record collection you’d find the gamut of sounds: 90s hip hop, 80s soul and free form jazz, all the way through to ambient rock and deep house, Nam-An is open to everything.

Masayuki Tomita

Japanese-born and Toronto based producer, DJ, and record collector.  As a DJ, Tomita is quite familiar with the local Toronto music scene.  His live show these days sees him performing on a mix of samplers, synths and effects to create hypnotic techno, house, and minimal beats for the audience.  Friday May 10th at the Drake Underground. 

The Dead Projectionists

Based in Toronto, The Dead Projectionists draw their influences from decade defining acts such as Pink Floyd and Radiohead.  With their collection of progressive alt rock songs, the band aims for a huge sound both live and on their records.  Saturday May 11th at the Monarch Tavern.

Zaki Ibrahim

South African-Canadian songstress Zaki Ibrahim brings her genre fluid songs to CMW 2019.  Blending jazz, soul, R&B, as well as hip hop influences, Ibrahim’s shows will have the audience vibing the entire way through. Friday May 10 at Longboat Hall.

Hooded Fang

Hooded Fang play an eclectic mix of guitar driven garage rock.  Well known for being experimental with their music, a Hooded Fang’s catchy, psychedelic garage rock tunes will keep audiences nodding along throughout the entire show.  Thursday May 9th at the Monarch Tavern.

The Dirty Nil

Based in Hamilton, The Dirty Nil is a trio of long time friends that play catchy, hard hitting rock featuring distorted guitars and sing along choruses. A Dirty Nil show is guaranteed to be a loud party. Friday May 10 at the Phoenix.
