It’s hard to choose just three, but here’s Scope reporter Sara Cristiano’s list of the Fringe Festival shows she’s most looking forward to seeing this year.
1) Adventures of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl
Rebecca Perry’s “Confessions of a Redheaded Coffeeshop Girl” received rave reviews at last year’s Fringe Festival, and the sequel is sure to be just as enjoyable. Perry is the creator and star of this semi-autobiographical tale about a barista who finally gets the chance to fulfill her dreams of being an anthropologist. Definitely not going to miss this one.

2) Summerland
Do I love musicals? Absolutely. Do I love musicals that are described as being a combination of The Breakfast Club, Peter Pan, and the Lord of the Flies? More than anything. Just looking at the show pictures on the Summerland website makes me think that this is going to be a theater experience like no other. Summerland seems to embody everything I love about Fringe – artistry, creativity, and weirdness all mixed into one.

So I’m not the biggest electronica fan, but even I’m curious to see how this parody about Toronto music producer Deadmau5 is going to turn out. Plus, the main character Joel Zimmermouse (great, right?) is played by Chris Baker, a Ryerson Theatre grad!

Sara Cristiano is about to start her third year of Ryerson University’s Media Production program. This is Sara’s second year covering the Toronto Fringe Festival for The Scope, and she is excited to see what the Fringe organizers have in store for this year. Sara loves watching theatre productions, especially anything funny, quirky, or completely and utterly insane.
