Bahamas is back with new music after his 2014 album Bahamas Is Afie with two notable tracks such as “Stronger Than That” and “All The Time.” In Earthtones, The Toronto-based folk singer opens up about identity and the human perseverance, mixing genres with soul and funk.
One of the tracks featured on Earthtones is “Way With Words.” It opens with an indie folk guitar riff that gives off a relaxing, laid-back vibe. “Way With Words” is an expression used to describe a person who has a way with words to strike up a conversation or to tell a story. In this case, the song tells a story of a person in search of creativity and inspiration.
Another track from Earthtones is “Opening Act (The Shooby Dooby Song).” Easily one of my favourite tracks in the album. The song opens with a soul and funk vibe provided by the back-up vocals. It is a catchy tune and “Shooby Dooby” will be the first two words that will pop up in your head. The track is about being true to yourself no matter what you do. It sends a positive message of self esteem and motivation.
Earthtones by Bahamas does not disappoint and should be listened to on your smartphone, CD or vinyl. With different sounds that will ease you into a funk after a long day or a long week of work.
Bahamas is currently on tour. You can catch him playing at the 2018 Field Trip Music Festival in Toronto in June.
