Ghost Stories is Coldplay’s sixth studio album. Chris Martin, the band’s front man, leads the group into a dreamy, serene musical experience following his separation with his wife, which explains the lack of the usual sugary pop recently displayed on albums such as Mylo Xyloto or X & Y by the award winning, world famous alternative rock band.

The haunting album is unlike anything they’ve ever done before. It feels more personal, more intimate. The first track, “Always In My Head”, is introduced by an angelic chorus that resonates throughout the whole LP. The single “Magic” introduces the synthetic percussions as well as the deep bass riffs. Martin’s falsetto flings itself against Jonny Buckland’s acoustic guitar in “Oceans.” The album’s most ecstatic track, the Avicii-assisted “A Sky Full of Stars,” is the EDM break that contrasts with the soft melodies of “O”, or “All Your Friends”.

Ghost Stories has a place somewhere between depression and acceptance: it contemplates the ideas of eternal love after romance has been extinguished, eternal pondering and the simplicity of human connection.
