CJRU joins the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA/ANREC) and 30+ radio stations in committing a combined $480,000 to support local businesses in the economic recovery. From coast to coast, in small towns to major cities including Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal stations have stepped in to offer grants of free advertising and promotion, or steep discounts to help local businesses ReStart and recover.

“The COVID-19 pandemic impacted almost every industry in Canada, including campus and community radio stations,” says Barry Rooke, Executive Director of NCRA/ANREC. “Despite record breaking losses in revenue, stations continued to stay on air to serve their communities. Those same stations have now stepped up to support local businesses through free advertising.”

CJRU has committed up to $15,000 worth of advertising inventory and production to this initiative to support local businesses. Additionally, we have opened this opportunity to local artists and small record labels to promote their latest releases on CJRU. Since launching in July 2020, The ReStart Initiative has awarded advertising grants to a variety of local businesses such as: Michelle Green Personal Growth Coach, My Art of Lashing, Swept Away and Belli Dry Cleaners, as well as to local independent artists such as: Grumpy Kitty Boy, Lexxicon, Joy Xande and Alliston Davis.

There is a rolling deadline for this program and we will continue to accept applicants until all grants have been awarded. Applications can be submitted below.
