The Scope at Ryerson (1280 AM)
Toronto, Ontario – Ryerson’s campus & community radio station, The Scope at Ryerson, has successfully obtained a license to broadcast.
On Thursday The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) posted their decision to grant Radio Ryerson Inc. a license to broadcast at 1280 AM, powered at 99 Watts (view notice here).
“Having a community-based AM radio frequency on our campus will be a boon for our radio students and volunteers, and another example of Ryerson’s city building agenda in action.” says Dr. Gerd Hauck, Dean of the Faculty of Communication & Design at Ryerson University.
Ryerson Student Union President Rajean Hoilett says the station will engage both students and community “A student-led community-based radio station will be an amazing opportunity to engage the city’s diverse talent and voices, expand on arts programming available in the city, and be an opportunity for the Ryerson community and members of the community at large to engage in a not-for-profit media outlet.”
The Scope at Ryerson is currently streaming online and can be heard at thescopeatryerson.ca. The decision means more of Toronto will hear the station’s content, currently focused on supporting local artists and musicians; long-format talk programming; and covering culture and athletics at Ryerson University.
